My Story When Sara was in fourth grade, a friend of mine said she had dyslexia. I didn't really know what that meant, but I knew she struggled in school and had an IEP giving her resource help, so the following year, when she was in the 5th grade, I enrolled her in the Davis Dyslexia Correction Program for reading. At the beginning of the week, she tested at 3.2 (3rd grade 2nd month) reading level. On Friday of that week, she tested at 5.4 (5th grade 4th month). I thought that it was impossible and must be a mistake. I ignored it, especially because Sara was sick and by the following Tuesday was in the hospital having another heart surgery. However, a month later when she was able to return to school, she took the AR reading test to determine her reading level, and she scored 5.4! I was SHOCKED! How could this be? I had to find out more about this program, so I went to the first four-day Davis workshop. Upon returning home, I was explaining to Sara what I had learned, when she got tears in her eyes and said, "Finally you get how I think!" This program not only brought her reading to grade level, but it also changed our relationship. I understood her.
Sara continued to be dyslexic, but she had the tools to correct the symptoms. She went on to create a blog which had over 3,000 followers. Sara died at the age of 21 from her heart failure, but what she taught me lives on in my ability to help others with their struggles with the symptoms of dyslexia. The Davis Dyslexia Correction® Program changed her life and it changed my life too. It may change yours as well.
Words from a parent of a 3rd grade Davis graduate. "Hello. Thank you for inquiring about (my son). His performance on spelling tests have greatly improved, as well as his self confidence all around which is the best! I would say he is reading at grade level now. The greatest thing has been the self realizations of my husband which has allowed him to relate to (my son) in a more understanding way. It has positively affected his relationships with my older son as well. So although we had our doubts with the price of this program in the beginning, the unexpected is life changing benefits have been well worth the cost. We continue to use the strategies he learned when needed. Hope you are well and thank you for your positive influence!
A 5-year-old kindergartner came for a Young Learner Program. His teachers and parents had been working for months to teach him how to write his 4 letter name. On day three, his mom came to pick him up and he proudly told her he could spell his name. He went on to spell not only his first 4-letter name, but also his last name with 7 letters. She was shocked and got tears in her eyes. He was so proud.
A 22-year-old community college student came for a reading program because she was working on an AA degree in business and failed English twice. She had never been able to write more than a paragraph, and she had never read a book from cover to cover. She spent all of her school years in a special education class because her skills were very low. On day three of the program, she got tears in her eyes and said, "You have no idea how healing this is. I'm not dumb, I just learn differently!" When I visited her several months later, she proudly showed me a three-page paper she had written for her English class and it was marked with an "A"! She also showed me a stack of quizzes from a book in that class and each one had "A" marked on it. Yes, she had read her first book from cover to cover and had gotten an A on each chapter quiz. She ended up with an A in English after failing the class twice. She went on to graduate with her AA in business.
A 9-year-old came for a reading program, reading at a kindergarten level. His mother had him in a reading program through the public library over the summer and was reading to him every evening. On the third evening, he asked if he could read a page. Surprised, she gave him the book (3rd grade level) and he read an entire page! Mom had tears in her eyes as she was telling me the next morning.
A 55-year-old man came for a program because he wanted his pilot's license and he couldn't pass the test. After the program, he went on to not only get his pilots license, but he later became a pilot instructor.
Quote from a student to parent..., "Today was great in math. We were doing decimals and I knew all the answers. The kids were just looking at me and wondering how I knew,.. Thank goodness for Ms. Dottie. She taught me all that stuff."
And the stories go on and on! Davis really works!
